Crew Member Spotlight: Bruce Schlicker
Clarksburg, West Virginia – native Bruce Schlicker joined Richard Childress Racing in 2012 on the No. 3 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team, he now serves as the engineer for Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
After graduating from grad school at West Virginia University with a mechanical engineering degree, Schlicker made the move to North Carolina in 2005 and began working at Fitz Motorsports as a fabricator.
Schlicker currently resides in Mooresville, North Carolina with his wife Ashlee and daughter Adalynn.
What do you like about Phoenix International Raceway?
“I like the short track feel that Phoenix International Raceway has. It is such a unique place that is not a cookie cutter configuration.”
What was the first job you had in racing?
“Back home in West Virginia I worked for an ARCA Truck team with Norm Weaver. I was a mechanic and free help for a while.”
At the beginning of the season you said your goals for 2014 were to win a couple races and be top five in the point standings. Going in to 2015 have those changed? If so, what are your goals for 2015?
“We have won two races this season, so my goal for next season is for us to win four races and be in the top five in the point standings, contending for the 2015 XFINITY Series championship.”
What is your favorite part about working with Brendan Gaughan?
“Brendan is always in a good, positive mood. He is easy to work with, if and when things don’t go the way we all would like, he doesn’t point the finger and place blame on any one person because we are a team. Even if things get messed up on our side of things, he keeps things positive and just makes this team a lot of fun to work for.”
If you were not in racing what would you be doing?
“I always say that I would be running some type of big equipment, like a CAT mining or haul truck.”
