Brendan Gaughan Captures Fifth Top-10 of the Season at Bristol Motor Speedway
Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet qualified 11th for Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. After a 90-minute rain delay, Gaughan took the green flag and raced his way inside the top 10 where he stayed for the majority of the night. On lap 32, Gaughan reported his Camaro was just a tick free, and later reported the cars handling had improved. During the competition caution on lap 60, crew chief Shane Wilson elected to bring the Las Vegas-native in for four Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel. Restarting 15th, the Richard Childress Racing team began working their way back to the top 10 and on lap 111 took over the 10th position. On lap 163, the 39-year-old driver reported he was loose exiting Turn 2 and Wilson adjusted the track bar during their pit stop on lap 185. Gaughan fought to maintain his track position and lined up seventh for the final restart on lap 294. The No. 62 RCR team finished the 300-lap event in the sixth position, earning their fifth top-10 finish of the season. Brendan Gaughan remains eighth in the driver point standings, only 18 points behind seventh.
