Crew Chief of the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Shane Wilson returns to his home track

  |   News
Returning as crew chief for Brendan Gaughan in 2014, Shane Wilson shared his thoughts about racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. In his seventh season with Richard Childress Racing, the Vermont-native looks forward to returning to his home track. The No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team currently has one win, which came at Road America, one top-five and four top-10 finishes as the NASCAR Nationwide Series reaches the halfway point in the season.
How do you set the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro up for New Hampshire Motor Speedway?
The set up for New Hampshire is very similar to that of Phoenix. The turns are banked less, but they are the same at both ends. These tracks may be a mile long, but they race like a short track.
How does the track change during the race?
The track at New Hampshire seems to change a lot with the sun or clouds. Because the Camping World East cars and the Whelen Modified race before us, the track is affected by the bias ply tires they use.
What is/are the key(s) to success at this track?
We hear it a lot, but like many other places the key to success at New Hampshire Motor Speedway is track position, and having a race car that is good enough to keep that track position.
Favorite race memory at New Hampshire?
My favorite memory at New Hampshire is winning the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in September 2010 with Clint Bowyer and the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing team. He led 177 laps in that race and it was a great day.
Being from Vermont, do you consider New Hampshire your home track? If so, how does it feel to return?
I do consider New Hampshire Motor Speedway my home track. I really enjoy going to Loudon and seeing a lot of my old friends and my family.
