Gaughan Says Swimming with Sharks is Easier than Racing in the Truck Serie

  |   News

Mooresville, N.C. (Sep. 28, 2011) – Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra crew have come into a smooth streak. The team has put together a string of performances where the driver and crew have loved the truck and the team effort. All involved are looking to Kentucky Speedway to score a finish that reflects the progress the team has made lately.

“Kentucky Speedway is my style of place and it’s a flatter mile-and-a-half that’s hard to drive for some people. I love the bumps, love the track. Can’t wait to see what our South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra will do for us there,” said Gaughan.

Gaughan finished third in July at Kentucky , his best finish of the season. He has been in position for several top-five, even top-three finishes since then but a variety of miscues has kept him just outside the top ten when the checkered flag waves. One small miscue makes a big difference, or, as the Las Vegas native puts it, diving in the shark tank is a lot more predictable than racing against the odds and competition in the Truck Series each week.

“Well, to be honest, diving in the shark tank is a whole lot easier than racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. There’s no question about it. The sharks aren’t going to do anything crazy to you! Most often when they are in a tank, they are pretty well fed so you don’t have to worry about being a snack. Diving in the tank is more about relaxing, observing and just letting the sharks swim around you. In the Truck Series, the drivers are more like the sharks probably at feeding time. We are all after the best we can get and there’s no telling how we’ll all go about getting it,” said Gaughan, who dove in the Newport Aquarium shark tank in Cincinnati as part of a media event heading into the Kentucky race weekend.
