RCR Gives Driver a Second Chance in USA Network’s “The Moment”
WELCOME, N.C. (April 17, 2013) – Richard Childress Racing recently teamed up with Super Bowl champion quarterback Kurt Warner to offer someone a second chance to attain their dream.
“The Moment” recently debuted on the USA Network with Warner as the host. In the episode scheduled to air Thursday, April 18, Warner learns how dirt track driver Kyle Shields was ready to sell his prized race car and give up his dream of being a professional driver.
Warner surprised him with a special offer – a second chance to make his racing dream come true under the tutelage of legendary team owner Richard Childress. On hand to provide insight and instruction were RCR NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers Ty Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet) and Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Chevrolet), as well as RCR executives Torrey Galida (chief operating officer) and Mike Dillon (vice president, competition). Also on the line, an opportunity to become part of the RCR driving stable.
Despite a discouraging experience with sponsorship early in his career, Shields kept striving – and driving – toward his goal. During the one-hour show, he receives instruction and guidance in not just the driving aspect of racing, but other key components of the sport such as public relations and marketing. Childress literally drops in during the final exam at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway to give his assessment of the driver’s abilities.
“Life is about taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves and it was great to see Kyle get a second chance at making his dream of becoming a big league race car driver come true,” said Childress. “The show’s producers created a series of tests to show all the different aspects of racing that a current driver has to be good at to be successful. It’s a lot more than just turning the wheel and putting the gas pedal to the floor and Kyle did a great job at all of it. Fans will have to tune it to see how it turns out.”
The segment airs Thursday, April 18 at 10 p.m. ET on the USA Network.
